KCG Architects was a finalist in the Runway to Street Chic category at the 2017 Fashion Meets Finish "Battle of the Decades" event, held Thursday April 6th at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway, New Jersey. Fashion Meets Finish is an annual event sponsored by the New Jersey Chapter of the IIDA (International Interior Design Association) held to benefit design education. For Fashion Meets Finish, architecural and design offices are teamed with product vendors and asked to create a wearable outfit using only the available material finishes. KCG Architects was teamed with Nemo Tile (www.nemotile.com), chose the decade of the 1990s and a team name of "Yo!" as a starting point for the design. The outfit included a jacket made from Schluter Kerdi-Flex, MC Hammer pants made from Schluter Kerdi-Flex with Bostik BostiMat accents, a shirt with Bisazza Tiles and a boom box made Laticrete Strata Mat with Schluter Ditra-Heat speakers. Team Yo! was represented on the runway by KCG Architects' own Austin Mendez. Austin was a clear crowd favorite as danced to early 90s hits including "Jump Around," "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" and "U Can't Touch This."
